CDR / CDRW drives no longer function

Something has happened to my XP system over the past couple days where both of my CDR drives no longer function.
I can't erase CDRW discs, I can't write to new CDR disks. I can read just fine.

I tried rolling back prior to the most recent Windows update, but that didn't fix it.
I get the message "Access Failure" in Nero and the prompt to "Insert a new disc" from Windows when I try to use the integrated CDR writing software.

One drive is an internal, and the other is an external.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Telstar

Did you check the System Evvent Log to see if there
any errors pointing to the CDROM(cdrom.sys) service not starting?

check your cables to make sure theyre all in good, i had the same problem

once i unplugged and replugged everything and reselected it as my recorder in nero, it worked fine

Yeah, but 2 players at once ... one internal and one external?
I'll check it, but it doesn't seem like a hardware thing...
