I've been looking around for a decent cdrw drive since I missed out on the compusa deal and getting frustrated with people trying to resale all those drives for +$100 more then they paid AND they are sending the rebates in themselves. Anyhow check this out. With the 30 off 150 coupon floating around this is a nice buy assuming this drive can read all that I want it to read. Anyone have any information or know a link to some please post it.

Here is the website with specs and stuff for the drive. Looks pretty dang good to me and at 129 +7.15 S&H I think it's going to be mine and I say screw all those egayer's out there trying to charge double for lesser drives.

Now THIS is a drive! 8MB buffer!
My friend was looking for one, and as he missed the burnproof's, this will definately be s.th. for him.
Thanks!

HumblePie, DON'T put "HOT" in the title, that will degrade it to post's like ETLA's.
Let the thread itself be a representation of it being HOT or NOT.

8MB of buffer? That's enormous. I think with that much buffer, who needs burnproof!!! Anyone have any experience with LG electronics? are they reliable? I'd like to get one if the drive is reliable.

Gammaguns -
I'll be able to tell you in few days if you are willing to wait that long and risk the drive being sold out. Of course you can do like me and just return it if you don't like the drive.

I hate replying to my own thread so much but I have a little more information to share and that is the drive is supported fully by cloneCD and adaptec and nero 5. For cloneCD hardware specs go here. It does require CloneCD 2.8.0.1 or better though. Still looking into the 99 minute CD capability claim and the SD2 ability of the drive. If anyone else knows this info off hand feel free to post for our benefits.

What about the AOPen CRW1232? It's a 12/10/32 drive, www.myaopen.com has it for $148 no coupons or rebates. It's also supported by Clone CD, no idea how good the drive is either (4meg buffer only) - good for those of us who've already used the buy.com coupon for $30 off.

LG is the same as Goldstar and is a Korean company. I don't know if this drive is made there. I have purchased other LG products (not CDR's or CDRW's) while living overseas and I think their quality is as good as the other korean companies.

While ago, when Pcworld rated cd burners, it was 8432 or less, lg one was up there with HP. It was slower than Plextor, sony and hp, but was much cheaper. Well, think they're at least 2nd tier, if you feel better.

The TDK VeloCD 12x10x32 @Plextor is a considerably better deal. Arguably the best writer out there, with burnproof. (Identical to the Plextor, with up to date 1.07 driver supplied on a disk in the box.) For $149 after 50mir rebate, delivered. Includes Nero with password as well.

This adds to what, about $140 with shipping?

I'm pretty sure you can still get the TDK deal for Gateway Accessories. Search the thread.

the bad thing about th tdk is the fact it's backordered on most sites AND you have to WAIT on the rebate. Personally I hate rebates and waiting on them unless it is ABSOLUTELY the best deal around with the rebate, ie FREE, then I'll do them. But from what I've read on some news groups and sites this drive looks pretty sweet.
