CDP 1440i Grub Error 25

I have an older out of support contract cdp 1440i appliance. I believe the error I get upon bootup "error 25" is related to the hard drive. I have tried booting to a live cd to repair it but it will not access the File system. Is there a way I can replace the hard drive with a newer one and then reinstall the os on the newer one? I wanted to also upgrade it to the latest firmware and software but I can not do that with this hard drive issue. I thought there would be a way I can do a repair install of the os but I do not see that either.
