Trying to rip some CDs i have to MP3s. My current collection is all 128k wmas and i was thinking of switching over to 320K MP3s to improve sound quality and make it work with my other MP3 player. I notice that Cdex uses an earlier version of the LAME than does EAC, anyone know which is the better ripper or of any better freeware rippers?

You can just get the 3.96.1 LAME dll and overwrite the one in the CDex folder.

I like CDex, but it seems that the program won't be update anymore, which is a shame. Good program. I've used EAC too; I just liked CDex's interface better. However, EAC lets you adjust the drive's read speed - if you've got a stubborn disc, or one that's really scratched, that might help.

Might I recommend FLAC for use on your PC? If you've got the space, that is. Not as good compression as MP3, but it is lossless.

If you use MP3, check out MP3Gain - very nice thing that losslessly adjusts the volume of MP3 files so that they all sound close to the same volume.
