Hi there,

I have troubles with CDEx running properly under XP SP2... the CDEx forum is full of people complaining about ASPI layers not being properly sen or used by the application.

I used to recommend this program, along with EAC, for ripping CDs, but not anymore.

What's a good CD ripper that does not use ASPI layers? I know EAC and CDEx will have ASPI issues... anything else? I don't really need an MP3 encoder as well, since I prefer dbpoweramp anyway...

PS: if you think I'm overly concerned about CDEX (which has already crashed one WinXP installation on my SFF), look at these threads:

word

i have a file that i downloaded a while ago wnntaspi32.dll or something from the cdex site for compatibility with win2k/xp and i just copy that to system32 and have never had any problems...

i would use media monkey but it takes too long and doesn't display how many errors occured...

Working fine for me as well under XP SP2. Did you try Options - Settings - CD Drive - "Use Native NT SCSI Library"?

That will work, but then every time I close CDEx, I get a nasty error message.

Ogg is better for low bitrate stuff, but MP3 is still superior in very high quality digital music. At least in my opinion (because audio is quite subjective).

And to teh OP, seriously give EAC a try. I was a die hard CDex user, and a friend made me try EAC. I was converted almost instantly.

cdex works perfectly for me.. lastest updates and whatnot for xp.... but EAC is another great choice. I actually went from EAC->CDex... i found the interface much cleaner, and easier to setup for other ppl who aren't so tech savy
