It's not really a rant when you're praising the product....

-silver <-- still burning a CD in 8 minutes

I started out with a 2x burner. Then I got a Scsi 8x burner and I thought it was the cat's meow.
Then I got a 20x Yamaha a couple of years ago.
Is it even worth it to spend $80 on a good 52x burner or should I save my pennies for a dvd-rw?

If you're really concerned about saving 1 or 2 minutes per burn then buy a quicker one. Personally I'd save for the dvd.

I have a 32X.. it's as fast as I'll ever need for burning CD's. it does like a 3:30 CD.. I had my old 12X for a LONG time (got rid of that just a few months ago) and it was fine too. any more speed is not worth the price. :)

had a 4x... then a 10x then a 12x then a 16x...then got sick of buying things that would get obsolete even before you finish a spindle of CD-Rs... then bought a yamaha 44x... then found out yamaha won't make any more burners. :D ... so i still burn at ~3 minutes. :)

I still have a 20x yamaha, I didn't get a burner till the day the first 16x burner came out. Then I bought that and when it failed, they gave me a new one that was 20x. I hope it fails soon so that I can get a dvd burner (gives me a good excuse to buy one)
