I bought a lite-on cdrw/dvd rom about 1.5yrs back... now using nero 6, and the windows xp inbuilt cd writing tool, it cannot burn cds... I cleaned the lens etc, no use... I usually burn quite a few cds every now and then... What is the usual lifetime/ max no. of cds a writer can burn? Also, which do u think is the best/fastest brand out there?

I think I burned about 700cds with my Lite-On 40x12?x48 drive. Still works afaik, but I moved on to a DVD burner now.

Buying a new drive (especially if you still want DVD capability) I'd recommend getting a DVD burner. Now that they're under $50, might as well.

Benq 1640 is a good one.

My mom is PC-cursed, she had a burner die after just one disc, but she let it sit unused for over a year so it was long out of warranty.
