CD Writer speed: my computer is a liar

Hi guys..
I've got a a problem with the use of my cd writer:
The write speed seems to be locked on 2x.

I've got a Racer 8-8-32, and i use Nero5.
I've tried to use Adaptec EasyCD but the
problem is still here: the burning software
indicate 'writing at 4x' or 'writing at 8x', as i've checked for the write operation
(Nero or EasyCD do the same thing). It said 'operation at 8x succeed' too.
But the time it takes to burn a whole cd is about 35-40 minutes....
So i supposed that the real speed is 2x....

Anyone could help?

Do you have dma checked..also some software requires an update on drivers to run the cdrw properly..for example winoncd has differernt drivers for the various writers..

Also you may need a firmware update
