cd writer not working!

I have an Artec cd writer (model wsm-52x) that used to work just fine until now!
It reads just fine but when ever I try to burn it would fail, error message "burn failure!."
I'm running XP Pro with diffrent burning programs (nero,etc) with various medias.
Any suggestions? And yes, ASPI layer is installed properly and did a fresh install of xp.

It probably just died, you can try flashing the bios, sometimes it will bring it back to life.
If that doesnt work, go to newegg and get a lite-on.

Everything has its day in the sun. You don't have your original TV, car or washing machine. There is a reason they warranty these units for 1 year. The manufactors think they will last that long. If they thought they would last longer they would give a longer guarantee as it would cost then nothing. I also suggest Liteon for a replacement drive.

do you have all the windows updates. there is one update that fixed my cd-burner in xp. mine did the same thing, worked for a while but then would only read cd.

My Liteon died the same way. Still reads cd's fine though and occassionally writes but much slower speeds than it's 52x suggests.
