CD track list on DVD player

I just bought an inexpensive Pioneer DVD player. One thing that bums me out is that it doesn't display a track list (with the name of each track), it just says Track 1, Track 2, etc. Is that normal? It also doesn't display a menu with VCDs burned with Nero (menu was burned on the VCD). Is that normal, too?

In the manual it does say it will show track names on mp3s. This is confusing to me. I usually burn CDs from .wav because I thought mp3s got converted anyway before they were burned to CD so what's the deal man?

Thanks

Does it have "CD-TEXT", and does your burner support that? Cuz I think that's the only way it will show up. Our DVD player does that. And I burn in Nero.

I burn all my CDs with cd-text on.

Apparently the DVD player doesn't have cd text. That's ok, my stereo CD player does. No biggie. I was just curious why it didn't display the song names, now I know.

I also don't know why it doesn't display the menu for VCDs that were burned with Nero. It displays the menu for commerical DVDs just fine.

Well you gotta remember that just cuz DVD menu's show up fine, that's no indication of your home burned VCD's playing just as well. It has a lot to do with the quality of their equipment, and the equipment coming from the Movie Industry. I guess you can equate it to a CD bought in the store, or one burned @ home. Obviously, the one from the store is going to be a better copy, right?

But as far as the VCD problem, just play around with it a lot. I had that problem with my DVD player, even though it said it would not work with CD-R's. Just played around, and used Nero for the first time (This actually got me hooked on Nero), and different CD-R's. And you might get better results.

OK, I got it figured out.

The player will play audio CDs but will not show track names. I will show track names on .mp3s. Now here's the kicker. I thought you only could burn .mp3s in Nero under Audio CD. I did that but the track names would not show. It then dawned on me, I burned them to data CD. That's when it displayed track names. Now, no other CD player I have will play a .mp3s on data cd so I don't know what good that is other than being able to cram about 100 mp3s on a 700 MB CD. Too bad, I already have most of my CDs burned to audio CD. At least I now understand how that works.

As for the VCD menus, the stupid manual said to use the RETURN key to display the menu. That never worked. What did work was to hit the PLAY button. Duh.

OK, all sorted. All in all not a bad player for $69.
