My tape adaptor died a while ago, so I went to get a new one. I bought an RCA one, but when I went out to my car and tried it out, it sounded horrible (mids and highs were muted). So I went to get the Sony adaptor, like the one I had before, and it worked better, but now I'm missing some lower mids + lows.
I took my old tape adaptor apart, to try to fix it, and while I was doing this I came up with an idea to hard wire the 'head wires' to the head wires inside the tape unit. Of course I will need a way to trick the tape deck to think there is a tape in it, but besides this, would this work?
The car stereo is a Sony XR-1750, and the adaptors are a CPA - 11 (old one) and a CPA - 9C. On the inside of the old adaptor the wire from the CD input goes to a small circuit board with 4 resistors, then 3 wires from this board go to the head of the tape.
