I was getting random crashes in games and I suspect my CD-ROM has gone bad. I have a Plextor 40X UltraPlex Wide and sometimes the cd-rom refuses to spin resulting in blue screens for me. I was wondering if there was any program out there that could stress the CD-ROM so I know for sure it was the CD-ROM that was broken? Also I've had this drive for two years and is it possible that the CD lens is dirty and needs cleaning? All you CD-ROM experts out there help me out! :)

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem and used Sandra Soft software and it detected my CD-ROM was indeed bad.

So Sandra will actually notify you that your CD-ROM is bad?

I love this Plextor drive and for the life of me can't find what's wrong with it. I just installed Win2k off the Plextor CD-ROM and everything installed fine. Even installed Office 2000. However when I try to play games, it just refuses to spin. When I install games, it would hang in the middle of the installtion and give me a BSOD saying it could not read the CD. I've tried this with more 1 game and it gives me the same problems. I'm almost out of hair to pull out in frustration :(
