CD-RW's

I recently installed a Yahama 20x 10x 40x CD-RW recorder. I uninstalled a Sony CD-RW. With Sony, I used Adaptec software for burning CD's, making covers etc. The Yamaha sent Nero software. Is it possible the Yamaha will ONLY work with Nero, and won't work with Adaptec? I prefer the Adaptec software, yet the Yamaha CD-RW is much faster and brand new. I think I already know the answer, but wanted 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions.

Definitely a valid question Andy. I'm taking the Sony home for my PC...installed the Yamaha on my work machine.
The Nero cover design software doesn't seem as easy. What are the advantages of Nero? (I know, wrong forum for a software question)

Nero does raw images of CD's with read copywrites. I believe. I haven't been able to use it much but thats what I've been told. Adaptec will not copy copywrigthed CD's.

If you do that sort of thing! Do you know anyone like that? I don't!

put it this way, the learning curve on nero is a little bit steeper than Adaptec.

with that said, the large buffer you can use with Nero probably has saved me from making coasters with my burner that doesn't have buffer underrun protection..

as soon as you 'learn' it (which takes a couple of minutes), you'll be able to use it without a problem.

Nero is the best cd buring software overall. It will work will almost all CD image types and work will all CDs.

You will have absolutely no problem using Adaptec or Nero with either burner. I have the same burner and use both at the same time, from the bundle I got with a Dell that had a CD-RW. A valid question yes, but the guy who said it will only work with the Yamaha really oughta try and get a clue. The time and effort necessary to make software only function with a certain piece of hardware simply odens't make it cost effecient. All these guys do it take the software and stick it in the box with their product. I gaurantee you that both will work with whatever burner you ever use, unless of course you switch to a Mac!

My preference is defintely Nero though. I learned how to use CD-R sftware with adaptec, but once you get an idea what's going on you'll see that Nero is really the better package.

I'm the guy who said the burner wouldn't work with both Adaptec and Nero. When installing Nero, it would'nt complete installation unless Adaptec was uninstalled...I'm no genius, but not completely PC clueless...when I reinstalled Adaptec (after purging Nero)my PC wouldn't even recognize my CD drive. Is it possible the problem lies a little deeper than software? That's where my lack of knowledge really[/i] kicks in!

peace

perhaps you can explain why the nero 5.5 bundled with my plextor will not work with any other cdrw drive installed into the pc. the plextor works fine & the bundled nero says plextor version on the cd!

thats one very impotant part of the equation, something the creator of the thread had not mentioned.

No actually you didn't, not that I can see at least (having read and read read your two previous posts). All I meant to say is unless its a specific proprietary software (as bacillus indicated his was) You should have no issues. As for ths issues with installing both, that diffucult to say but more likely there are options that would need to be disabled in one or both of the prgrams to get them to work in unison. As I said I have done it but its been a long time since then.
On to your next question: Your computer doesn't recognize your drive, this is defnitely more than software! Try forcing the drive with the hardware wizard. If your computer still doesn't find it you can use the option to select it from list and force it that way. Before doing any of that though, make sure your board is seeing. If you don't notice it recognizing it when you boot go into the BIOS itself and see if it shows up. If it does, but it still doesn't show up in the device manager you should be able to force it using the windows drivers. You also didn't say what OS you're using, that does make a difference...
