CD-RW will only eject CDs if told by Nero or after restart

well the topic pretty much says it but here are a little more details.

the CD-RW is a Teac 16/12/40x. it works flawlessly except that sometimes (quite often) it locks the disc inside.
at some instances it would eject just normally, and at other it would hold the disc - pressing the eject button does nothing.
and it's not like it does it with a certain disc - one and the same disc will eject once, and the next time will get stuck.

to work around this I found 2-3 solutions:
- disable and then re-enable the device in device manager;
- use Nero and the Eject Medium option;
- restart.

this is WinXP on an intel BX mobo IDE controller.

any ideas? thanks!

Sounds like maybe the built-in CD burning utility in XP might think that the drive is being written to and locking it. Since you use Nero anyway, you could try disabling that and see what happens.

vetteguy - thanks

when it started doing that I had the 'burning' service disabled
right now it's back to enabled, but is there anything else I should do to stop the windows burning thing? (except that service... don't recall the name)
