cd rw troubles!!

Hi there...

I hope someone can help!

While I was using my computer..the "disk in-active" light on my philips cd rw drive began flashing and i could not access it and when i pressed the eject button, nothing happened. So i rebooted my computer..once restartnig and the next time turning the power off and on again. This time the drive is nolonger listed as being installed on my computer! but the darn light is still blinking on it. In the control panel under "system" it is nolonger listed there. I tried the "adding new hardware" menu, but with no success. When i click on icon "my computer" only my floppy drive, my 2 hard drives and my cd rom are listed(a, c, d, e; respectively)..not the cd rw. Just in case I ran my norton anti virus 2002...it found nothing.

Can anyone put me on the right path to fixing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Paul

I've got the Phillips 8x Writer....

Is there a cd in the drive? If so try pressing and holding down the eject button for a few seconds to see if the disk ejects - it could be a faulty disc wrecking havoc with the drive.

If that doesn't work - stick a pin or a straighted papeclip in the emergency eject hole (its a tiny hole, somewhere on the front of the drive - I've spraypainted the front of mine of I cannot see the hole anymore) - hopefully that should eject the cd.

Once you've done that, reboot your machine - if the drive is still not detected shut the machine down and take your case off and check the IDE cable (its big, flat and grey with a red stripe on one side) is still connected to the back of the drive - perhaps the cable just fell out - Also check the other end of the IDE cable is still attached to your motherboard.

Let me know how you get on.

Good luck.
