I have a HP 9700i cdrw that I just bought and when I put a cd in it. The darn thing sounds like a chainsaw. What is up?

Does that happen with ALL CDs, including blank CDRs? That sound is characteristic of an out-of-balance CD . . . it is vibration.

If it happens with ALL CDs, then I would say the spinning mechanism is out of alignment. If it is with only certain CDs, then the problem points to the CDs themselves.

If it happens with all CDs, return it and exchange it for another.

cool I will have to check that out. I noticed it whenever I put a video games cd in. Will check for others. Might be the simplier of just the cd being off balance.

What are the problems associated with the spinning mechanism?
I kinda off ripped apart the box for UPC code for rebate. Its not going back anytime soon... unless I buy another and do a switchero.
