CD-RW read problems

I got a new computer, and I'm having trouble with my CD-RW drive, mostly with older disks. I have a Cicero CA12A-5 computer. My drive has a 52x read speed.

Here's the main problem: Whenever I put in an older disk, I hear the hum of it spinning, along with a sort of low clicking-grumble combination-type noise (sorry if that isn't very descriptive). It goes on for a few minutes, then the hum changes, as if it is slowing the spinning of the disk. With the most recent CD, it did that once, but sometimes it'll start the noise, wait, slow down again (with other older disks). When I put in a disk such as Age of Mythology, it works fine. Is it because the drive cannot read the disk at 52x? If so can you force the drive to always try to read a disk at a lower speed? If that isn't it, what is it?

Also, sometimes (though not recently), my drive will either not read the disk at all (Autorun OR Exploring the contents), or it might just be able to run autorun, and I can't see the exact contents. When I restart my computer, the same disk will work fine. Why is this? This second problem seems to happen right after I burn a CD and try to read it (happened once), and right after installing software from the CD, it'll only be able to do autorun (twice, once with a newer disk).

My computer is still under warranty, IIRC, so I could always have it replaced, if it is because it is defective...

Thanks for any help you can provide.

try dl any kind of drivers for your cdrw. it sounds like you have a busted cdrw since you've already tried a variety of cds, and they mostly don't work with it.

For the first problem, they almost always work, just that it takes time and does that. For the second problem, I've only witnessed this happen in the above situations. But, if there isn't a solution, I'll try contacting my computer's manufacturer to have it replaced.
