CD-RW query

Hi, i just have a quick question. My parents have just bought a computer and it only has space for one CD-ROM drive. What I was wondering is, can I replace that with a CD burner and still burn stuff from other CDs? Or do I need an external drive? thanx for your help in advance...
 
1 drive is cool. if you want to make copies of a disc, you just put the original in the burner, it copies the contents to the HD, and then it prompts you for a blank disc. I would bet that there is room for another CD ROM though....you probably just have to remove one of the face plates from the front of the tower.
