cd-rw problems

I'm having problems with my burner. All of a sudden, my burner started putting out coasters - like 15 straight attempts. Then I noticed that all of the failed disks had no "etch" markings on them at all and I was getting "power configuration" errors. Right when it got to the "writing track" part (I'm using Adaptec software BTW), it would spit out the CD saying "error reported by output device". So I redid all of my power supply plugs and changed sockets and everything and I got some Sony 80 min CD-R's and tried it again. This time it got to the "writing track" part and it didn't spit it out but halfway through the "closing session" part, it opened up the CD bay and closed it again and kept on going for another 30 seconds or so. After that it said "CD created succesfully." But when I tried to play the cd in my cd-rom drive, it wouldn't recognize it. So I looked at the CD and there are markings on it but they look strange. They are not continuous and I'm wondering if when it opened the cd-rw bay and closed it in the "closing session" part of the process, it may have skipped a part of the etching. Anyone have any suggestions?

Can you simulate a burn OK. I gave up on Adaptec(now Roxio) software after the program just wouldn't work after a while. Nero Burning Rom, Click n Burn Pro and CloneCD are better.

It's where the burner does a trial run with the laser turned way down most copy programs have that option built in,usually where burn options are.
