CD-RW not responding

I just recently bought a new CD-RW drive (LITEON LTR-52327S). I read all the great reviews for it and was suprised that it did not work on my system. I have checked and rechecked the ribbon cable and the power to confirm they are correct. On boot up, the drive's green LED illuminates and does not go off. The BIOS shows the drive correctly and windows loads the most recent driver automatically.

My problem is that the drive does not read any CDs and will not open unless i use a paperclip to push it out. The button on the front does not open the drive and neither does going into My computer and selecting eject. When the drive is highlighted in My Computer the side bar says "CD Drive (D:)" and flashes constantly.

Is my drive ruined (I hope not - its new) or am I totally missing something?

Sounds like a bad drive, it does happen.

You coudl test it on another IDE channel to trouble shoot. But if your previous drive worked fine on it, then it shouldn't be an issue.

2nd option test on another machine if you have access to one.

I would just return it and get another one.

If the data cable is not keyed, make sure it is oriented with the edge color toward the power connector. It can also damage a drive if you use a paperclip to open it when it is powered up. Make sure it is jumpered properly as well.

Hook it up to just power to see if it will eject while not hooked up to a data cable.
