I just got a Teac 24X CD-RW. I'm using Nero 5.5.5. For some reason I can't erase my rw media. This is the first time I've used a rw drive, so I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong. I just wrote the data to the rw like a normal cd and it worked fine. When I tried to erase it, it continued to fail until it finally erased. Then later when I wanted to erase the disk again I couldn't do it. Am I doing something wrong, or are these discs erasable only once, or what?

yup, that's what I tried. It starts erasing the disc when I do that, then after about 8 seconds it stops and beeps.

that usually works for me!
suggest you try an uninstall/reinstall of nero to see if that sorts it out.
a cdrw should be able to write/rewrite x1000 times.

I just thought of something. The computer is overclocked. I have a Pentium 3 1000MHz (10x100MHz) on a BX board overclocked to 1120MHz. It's never crashed, but maybe being that far out of spec makes the CD-RW not run right.

x112 fsb shouldn't affect your cdrw drives.
don't know the solution to your problem if uninstall/reinstall didn't help but you can download a trial version of clonecd & it has a cd erase utility included!

I might try that CloneCD. It didn't fix it when I set it to 100MHz. I'm thinking maybe I have bad media. I bought a spindle of 25 4x Memorex CD-RWs. I burned the disc at 4x. Maybe it's just a bad disc and I should just toss it in the trash and try a different one.

I tried CloneCD. It didn't work. It said "Erase disc in progress, pleese wait." and after about 15 seconds it said "Erase disc completed!" When I put the CD back in and look in Windows Explorer, the data is still there. I hope this is just a junk CD, and my burner is ok. Is there anything special you have to do when you burn to a rw to make it erasable? Cause when I burned this CD I just did it like I would a regular CD.
