I believe I have a re-branded OptoRite 52x CD-RW drive that was sold to me under the "Media-Stor" label for a ridiculously cheap price. I was wondering if I could flash the drive with OptoRite's identical model firmware so it would identify it as an OptoRite drive. Both drives look exactly the same, have the same features and and firmware dates are different by a month.

Maybe ..maybe not.... I just tried the same on an OEM'd SOny DVD-+RW and found that the firmware for the Sony wouldn't work on the no-name drive even though it WAS the exact same sony.
