I'm having a problem getting WinXPpro to enable DMA on the secondary IDE channel.
Here's my configuration:
Primary master: 40GB Maxtor 740DX (ata-133) UDMA enabled mode 5 (ata-100). My motherboard only accepts up to ata-100.
Primary slave: 30GB Maxtor 540 (ata-66) UDMA enabled mode 4 (ata-66)
Secondary master: Lite-On 40x12x48 CD-RW (UDMA enabled)
Secondary slave: Lite-on 40x DVD drive (UDMA enabled)
This all works fine under Win98se, but using WinXPpro the secondary IDE channel won't allow me to enable DMA on either drive (CD-RW or DVD), but has no problem with the primary IDE channel (both hard drive are utilizing UDMA mode properly). I've selected "DMA if available" in device manager, but when I reboot and check the settings PIO mode is selected on both devices on the secondary IDE channel.
Anybody have an idea what might be wrong? It's a real pain to use these drives in the PIO mode - way to slow. i.e.; burning a CD using Win98se at 40x take about 3-4 minutes and about 6-7 minutes using XPpro.
Thanks for any feedback.
