Hi, I'm new at this so would appreciate the help. I ordered and got the Lite-on cdrw 12x10x32 12101B from newegg. I got it in my computer, (Win98), on the 2nd channel as a slave after my cd player. I started up the computer and it never asked for the driver, everything looks ok in device manager properties tab for the cdrw, but I haven't used the floppy disk with the install.exe on it. Is there any benefit in running the install.exe or should I skip it? Update: I set the cdrw to DMA like my cd player is, and just tried to play a music cd, the POS win media player ver. 7 popped up a box saying they have determined that they cant play the music cd digitally so the wow effects, bass, etc wont work. Anyone else run into this? Thanks.

Edit-I tried to play the music cd on the cd player and thats when I see the WMP message box, it may have been like that all along, I just never got the "can't read digitally from your player" message before. BTW, DMA box checked or not for the cd-rw makes no difference.

You should need drivers for you CDRW...you just need to make sure that your CD writing software supports it. As for Media Player 7....I don't use it.

I have never installed drivers for the 5-7 cd-rw units that I have installed so far. The OS where Win95 and 98version 1. All you should need is to now install the burning software. You should be able to read disks for the cd-rw unit also.
