My Yamaha CRWF1 recently started acting strange lately and I hardly ever use the drive. It seems to read pressed CD media (games and other store bought apps fine) but if I put in a CDR disc that has been written on it attempts to search for data and stops.

The other day I wrote onto a CDRW disc and everything worked fine until i tried to add some more data onto it and it wouldn't see the CDRW disc, i ejected and inserted several times then it finally saw it. If I put in a fresh CDR disc it will detect it right away. Could this be a symptom of a dying drive or a dirty lens? I don't want to get rid of this CD Writer because I like that T@2 function even though it's not used very often it's just a nice option to have.

Edit: I forgot to meantion that it shows up fine in the Device Manager.

I had the same problem with that drive on another system. I used one of those cd laser cleaners which took care of the problem. Don't know if this would help in your case.

Yup, cleaning it should probably help. If you can get your hands on that CD cleaner, it's cool. I however clean 'em manualy, best way arround. ;)
