CD-RW Disappearing Writing Speeds?!?

I have an Acer CD-RW 10x4x32. I am using Adaptec's Easy CD Creator--with the latest upgrades. I have DMA enabled. When I first installed the drive I had all the writing speeds. (But at that time I did not have DMA enabled.) But recently my 6X and 8X speeds disappeared. I still have 10X though. (I noticed this after I enabled DMA.) Could the disappearing speeds be related to DMA? Or is there another possible cause? I have tried multiple CD-R media. So I don't believe that is the issue.

I had an acer 8x4x32 that worked fine for a long time and then all of the sudden wouldn't burn more than 4x in EasyCD or Nero. I worked on it for months and even posted threads here but finally I solved the problem by buying a Plextor 16x. Works great now :)

sounds like your default writing speed is set to x10.
you probably didn't test the write speeds under tools in ez creator, so you're not being offered more options by the software. doubt it has anything to do with enabling DMA for the drive!
