I've been considering buying a new CDRW. I like the look of the TDK and have also read a lot of good reviews of their drives. I have noticed that the 12x10x32x comes in two versions, and was wondering, what is the difference, if any between the TDK 121032 and the 121032A?

I am not sure which one is which, but one of those models is a rebadged Plextor.....The Plextor is the ABSOLUTELY BEST cdrw on the market.

I have a rebadged Iomega 12x10x32 that is actually a plextor thru and thru. I havent been able to make a coaster yet. :) and I have seriously tried to do so.
For example:
I had ftp clients downloading, was continually unrarring and also rarring files, running atleast 6 IE browsers surfing the net, opening and checking mail/Outlook, and running firewalls, antivirus TRYING to make a coaster and I couldnt!

This burnproof is excellent technology. I think there was a deal on the TDK but if you can get the 'earlier' version I think that is the plextor. BTW consider going with a straight plextor if the prices are close that way you wont go wrong.

Anyone have the site that lists the info on how to change thefirmware from Iomega/TDK to Plextor?

Someone who frequents Anandtech was the guy who created the patch. Look for the nic: LiQiC
There are 3 EXE files:
io2px12.exe - This converts any Iomega drive to a Plextor 12/10/32A
pxfix.exe - This converts any Plextor drive to a Plextor 12/10/32A
px2io.exe - This converts any Plextor drive to an Iomega 12/10/32

Please note, this converts ANY drive to the Plextor or Iomega.

So if you run the Iomega 2 Plextor program, make sure you don't have any
other Iomega drives connected to your computer. Same with the Plextor 2
Iomega, or the Plextor 2 Plextor. If you do, these drives will be renamed
as well ... whether it is on the SCSI bus, or the IDE bus!

I have not tested these programs thoroughly because I do not an Iomega
drive. As always, this program is run at YOUR OWN RISK! No guarentees
are made for what it can and can't do. If it damages your system, then
it is your responsibility to fix it. I cannot offer much tech support
for these programs, sorry.

I'm not sure either but CircuitCity.com carries both of them and when ya read info on the 121032 it doesn't mention anything about burnproof...whereas the 121032A mentions burn-proof technology....so on a guess I would think thats the diff.....those 2 models each have seperate firmware based on TDK's website, which leads me to believe my assumption...best I can do for you.
