CD-RW can't read CD-RW Cd's

I have a new pacific digital cd-rw. I installed xp, and it won't read any CD-RW's. What can I do to fix this problem? It won't read that. and it won't install direct cd5 that comes with cd-creator platinum. If anyone can help me with a solution please let me know. Thank you.
