CD-RW Burns Coasters - ASPI Error?

Hello. I've got a (piece of junk) BTC burner that was a replacement for a burner that went bad. It's worked OK since I've used it in this new machine, but now I'm tearing my hair out.

It won't burn anything. I think I'm up to 8 coasters.

If I try in CDRWIN, I get:
> ERROR: 'WRITE' command failed on device 1:1:0
> Unexpected ASPI Error

If I try in Nero, it locks up. I posted the log below.

Both these times is right after writing the lead in track. Then it locks and I get a coaster. Most times I can't get the disc out (the drive flashes orange), and my machine is dibilitated until I reset and take it out.

I've reinstalled (multiple sets) of ASPI drivers. I tried the CDRWIN ones as well as the Adaptec ones. Both times it didn't work. NOTHING is running in the background. I've tried multiple different files and images, and my hard drive is defragged. The HD and CD-RW are on separate IDE buses. I updated Nero, reinstalled CDRWIN, everything.

I'd appreciate any help you can provide. My HD is filling up without a burner! :)

I would first try a new ide cable, no longer than 18". Is the drive master on the secondary channel and is DMA enabled for that channel?

Thanks for the reply. Windows help said I could do it under the Hardware Resources in System Information, but my System Information only has System, Display, Printer, Memory, Drive, Input, and Multimedia. Can someone help me out here? I'm pretty sure DMA is enabled, but I'm not positive. Thanks.

Easiest way to see if DMA is enables is to go to device manager, click the + by the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, pick a channel (primary or secondary), right click and choose properties, go to advanced settings, make sure they are both "DMA if available"

Thanks for the reply. Jeez. Under IDE controllers I only have "NVIDIA Nforce IDE Controller" on my 8RDA+ board. I checked props but there is neither a primary/secondary selection, nor an advanced tab, nor a DMA setting. AARGH!

Hmm... I reverted back to my non-Nforce IDE driver (back to standard) and changed my CD-RW to master and somehow it worked. DMA was already enabled the whole time (hah!).

Well, I won't argue with results. Thanks, guys :).

AAAARRRRRGH!!!!

I just burned 2 CDs with CDRWIN. They both burned successfully.

Then, when I pop them in the drives, they won't read.

The DVD-ROM gives "Windows cannot read from this disk. It may be..."
The CD-RW just reads no files. It identifies the disk as being like 670MB, but I don't get anything.

This is getting really frustrating. I'd appreciate suggestions. Thanks.
