CD-RW burning problem (stream errors)

When ever I do anything I burn something and, at the same time, do anythingmildly demanding (e.g browsing web, using winamp) my comp would sometimes give me the blue screen notifying of some error. It does not always occur, but usually when I shift to another explorer window or click on a link that pop up a new page.

Anyone have any idea why this is occuring? Is it natural of comps or what? I did tweak my settings to the optimal recommanded settings - http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/kt7faq.htm - could that be a problem?

When I burn, I burn. That's it, nothing else.
If you fart too loud you can cause buffer underruns with IDE burners.

Older drives minus newer burnproof technologies make it difficult to burn and multitask...However this usually results in buffer underrun error message brought up by burner program...not BSOD

Do you by chance have a soundblaster live product? Sounds like the sblive issue and 686b southbridge chip (which I believe is on that board) which causes BSOD and reported a lot doing activity like you mentioned...Also this may be believed to happen rarely but w/o sblive...My fix would be go download via 4 in 1 version 4.32 for the fix...

I wouldn't say that they're that sensitive. 😉

You should not do anything while you are burning unless your cdr drive/system is setup for it, and with your old drive I would not recommend it. On my p2 450 I couldnt do much while burning with my old hp 4x drive, but now with my 16x yamaha I can do stuff while burning without problems so far, however, it has an 8mb buffer, pretty much no chance of running into a buffer underun.

I get the problem in cdrwin and fireburn. Yes I have a soundblaster live on one of the pci slots. I vaguely recall that before I've changed the settings in my bios(to that of the optimal recommanded), I did not have so many blue screens of death. I had underburn before on my amd 355 mhz and also few times on my 1.2ghz comp, but they didn't give me the blue screen part. If it's a sblive problem, why is it isolated to times when I'm burning? That's what I'm boggled over.

Have you tried cleaning the guide rails inside? If it's an HP or related, they wear out annoyingly quickly, especially those piece of crap Phillips models. I should know, both the retail and RMA are Phillips, and both became dirty, hell the RMA doesn't even work..
