What exactly does "multi-read" mean.

I though it meant that the CD-ROM could read PhotoCD, VideoCD, CD-I, CD-Extra, CD-R, CD-Text, etc.

I have a friend who thinks it means that the CD-ROM can read a CD-RW too.

He has a multi-read CD-ROM that won't read a CD-RW and he's pissed off. But I don't think it's supposed to.

Can anyone clear this up?

If the CD-rom is too slow, it can't pick up the data on certain CD-RW discs.
