CD ROM won't detect CDs

HELP!
I just bought an ASUS CD-S520 52X. It is great except for the fact it wont detect ANY CD. I have tried burned CDs and retail CDs (different ones as well). It is detected in the divemanager as the right CD drive, and it shows up in my computer but wont spin or read any CD. What is going on? Please help guys!

I'm using Windows XP Pro, so I shouldn't have to get drivers. Ahhhhh, someone help. please?

You are correct about not needing any drivers for a cdrom. Are you sure you have the connections right and everything. Try hooking something else up to that IDE channel also to make sure it is working.

Yeap, I tryed various connections. All of them won't work. My friend, AmdEmAll, took it to his computer at home and he actually got it to spin but he said it was running MUCH slower than what a 52x ASUS should be running at and it had a bunch of errers when reading a CD.

I called NewEgg today, they are sending me a new one, and shipping it two day... w00t.
