CD ROM tray won't stay out (when ejected)

Since I installed home XP a couple months ago, my CD Rom tray pops out when I push the eject button - then immediately goes right back in. It only does this when has no CD inside. To get it to stay out (so I can play a CD or load software), I must first eject my CD RW tray, reinsert it, and the eject my CD Rom. I have tried removing the thing from the device driver list and reinstalling it but no change. Any ideas on what else to try? Thanks in advance. Ron
