CD-ROM tray ejecting with Zip disk

I have a user with the following problem: whenever he ejects a Zip disk, the CD tray slides out too. He is using OS X. Any ideas?

Are they on the same channel?
What hw is present?
What drives?

Sorry - don't know much about MAC

iirc they share the same grey cable (channel?) and power cable... they are the only two drives on the machine. This is the first time I've ever had to poke around inside a mac
