CD-Rom required for a game?

I got a game on this computer that keeps bugging me for the CD, although it shouldn't. I tried the same exact game on a different computer and it worked fine. The other computer has a CD-Rom and mine is a DVD-Rom. it's kind of an old game. Is the problem that the game needs to just detect a CD-Rom to work? Would that make sense? I wouldn't know what the problem was otherwise. Anyway, i'm thinking of putting in a CD-Rom, i think it'd work then.

The game works fine on another computer, and the only difference there is, is that the other computer has a CD-Rom drive, that doesn't seem likely to be the problem, but i can't come up with any other explanations. Both the computers are identical otherwise.

I have the same problem with my Grim Fandango discs. I tried a little Daemon Tools, just so I can keep that rare classic in good shape, but it still asks for the cd. When did dvd drives show up(the next year; 98)'?

4x DVD drives were out in mid-late 98, so I'd imagine that DVD players hit PCs at roughly the same time as the home entertainment business.

Hack is such a harsh word :p

It didn't work though oddly enough, it adds the information to the same exact place in my registry as it does on the other computer, but for some odd reason it just doesn't want to work on here, it's driving me nuts. I'm pretty sure i still have the game, somewhere in "the pile". I owned it at one time anyways :/
