CD-ROM Question

Hello,

My problem is that my Lite-on 48125 CD-RW doesn't read any CD's, the computer and windows xp detects it with no problem, but it doesn't recognize any cd. When I insert the cd, the cd light fashes a few times, but the cd doesn't spin or anything, do you think the drive might be dead? The drive worked fine before.

Any help appreciated.

Sounds like a dead drive. How long has it been acting like that? Have you made any changes to your computer recently(hardware or software)? Might want to make sure the IDE cable isn't loose.

Is been since this week. The only changes I made to my system is install a Geforce 6800, the CD drive is set as a master with my DVD-RW as slave in the same cable, my DVD-RW works fine.

Thanks for the reply.

I changed IDE cables, ran it alone in the IDE channel, no luck. How much warranty does the Lite-on drives have?

Thanks.

What do you have for a power supply? The 6800 draws a lot of power..not sure what the warenty is on the drive. If you still have your old video card, maybe you could swap it and see if the drive starts working again. If so, then you may need a stronger PSU.

I have an Antec SL-350 power supply, the card is running with one power supply connector. I just traded my old ATI 9600 pro for PC-3200 ram, I'll have to wait when I get my new true power 430 this week, I am going to try installing the cd-rom with the other power supply when it arrives.
