Have a CDRW/DVD reader combo drive, the samsung one.

Having problems when installing games and copying stuff from the cd rom to the hard drive, always getting error messages, "cannot copy.....data error (cyclic redundancy check)

running on WinXP

is there a setting in windows that will solve this problem?

Thanks

Some random things might be related to you, just a shot in the dark.

I've seen some complaints about the disc being bad were from games, such as Final Fantasy and Call of Duty. Could be a bad disc...

Also side stuff to check is make sure your IDE cables are snugged in perfectly and that you aren't overclocking.

You might also want to try updating to the latest firmware and making sure DMA is enabled on the drive

It was easy to check if DMA was enabled with Win 98, but I can't tell with XP. Its not listed in the device manager properties for the drive.

Look under "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
then the interface with the drive you're looking up
"Primary" or "secondary"
then the "Advanced" tab
