I have lost two CD-ROMS over about the last year and a half to the same problem. The CD ROM will stop recognizing CD's when a CD is inserted. I just keep getting an INSERT CD message even when a CD is in the drive. The latest drive was an ACER. The other drive was some off-brand, don't remember the name. Just wondering if this is a common occurence with CD-ROM drives?
Anyway, I'm going to take this oppurtunity to upgrade to a DVD-ROM. newegg has a LITE-ON for around $30. Hope it lasts longer than a year.
