I just now started having this problem. When I put any disc in my cd-rom, and double click the D: icon, I get an error that the autorun program has performed an illegal error and must be shut down. If I double click the setup.exe file on the disc, I get an error starting program message that says the setup.exe file is linked to missing export USER32.dll:wsrintfA, and another saying D:setup.exe, a device attached to the system is not functioning. Please someone help.

What version of Windows are you running? When did this start happening? Do you have any conflicts in the Device Manager under primary and secondary hard drive controllers?

Yes it just started and no there are no conflicts. I later today will put a different cd-rom in to see if that is the problem or not.

Try removing the CD-rom drive from the device manager, rebooting, and letting Windows redetect it.

Good idea Boobers, but I had already done something else before I read your post. I might try that later though. I switched the cd-rom out of my other computer into this one and both computers worked fine. Is it possible that this cd-rom and motherboard dont get along. It is one of those ECS Smart 100x cd-roms if you have ever heard of them. I have had problems since the start with it because the guy sold me a broken one and the company wont replace it because they stopped manufacturing it like 3 years ago. Maybe if I get the time I will switch them back since the other computer is my dads office computer and he doesnt use his cd-rom much anyway. If anyone else thinks of something let me know. Thanks

It sounds like you may be having both software and hardware problems, but this should fix the software problem. Restart the computer in MS DOS mode. At the C: prompt type <scanreg /restore> (do not include <, and >) then press enter. It will take you to a screen where you can choose 5 different dates. Select a date that is before 04/11/02. Hopefully you will still have one before that date since this is when you reported these problems. Anyways select a date previous to the 11th as long as it says, started, next to it. Let it do its thing, it will then tell you that you need to restart your computer, just press enter to do that. (It might tell you that it failed, if it does then this won't work). After it reboots you shouldn't get those error messages about the cd rom. This basically restores the registry back to the specified date. Assuming you weren't experiencing these problems before the selected date. Good luck.
