cd rom player not seen by win98 se

I did a clean install of win98 se onto a reformatted hard drive using the cd-rom player. Everything installs fine, untill it needs to reboot, when it reboots it asks for some files from the cd-rom drive. But when I go to browse the cd for the files windows does not see the cd-rom drive. I can continue on by skipping those files getting windows to come up. But, obviously it doesn't see the cd-rom drive that i just used to inatll the os. FRUSTRATING.

If you have any solutions I would be very grateful

hmm, that's odd.

Have you gone into device manager to see if it is at least recognized as not being setup? If it's there but has an exclaimation mark next to it u probably just need to update drivers.

In the BIOS there should be a setting for Plug and Play devices. If it's set to PnP OS then change that to non-PnP OS or vice versa.
It's generally good to set it as PnP OS which means windows is responsible for detecting all new hardware, but it's obviously not doing that, so maybe a BIOS detect will fix your prob.

Good luck

Been there, done that. That is why I always copy the install files to the hard drive. After installing from there, the CD-ROM always comes back after the install is finished.

Now go find some DOS drivers. 😀 Maybe the Win98SE startup disk will work for you.
