CD-ROM performance goes down after moving to XP?

Hi,
Ive noticed the read times on my cd rom (hp cd writer 9500) have gone way down and access seems much slower. Has anyone encounterd this?

I'd second that - most likely the cause.

If you have a fast connection to the net, try updating your XP install with the Windows Update website. There are tonnes of compatiblity fixes out for XP now, especially issues with DVD/CD/CD-R drives.

lads,this is XP he's talking about!
he'll have to look in device manager under ide controllers/advanced settings to see if his drive is using DMA transfers & if not to choose "dma if available" for transfers!
