CD ROM on SINXP's RAID IDE?

Will a cd rom or dvd rom etc work on the sinxp1394's RAID IDE controller.. I have a HD there in one of the slots and it functions fine as a third ide slot (not RAID).. why won't a cd rom work in the other slot as well.. ? I have two HD's in the IDE primary and a cd rom with a dvd rom in the secondary..
