CD-ROM Freezing my PC

I just built my new system and whenever I put a CD in the CD-ROM my computer freezes. I really don't know whats going on because I used it to install Windows and it worked perfectly. I have all the motherboard drivers installed. I dont know what to do. Should I just by a new CD-ROM?

Strange.... i guess use a new IDE cable and see if that helps. Is the optical drive really old? DVD-ROMs are cheap...

OK, I've done various stuff and this is starting to get really wierd. I tried an audio CD and it worked, but a CD like FarCry wont work. I reinstalled Windows. Then I used the Nvidia nForce drivers instead of the MSI drivers. I put FarCry in after installing the drivers I got from Nvidia and it started. Then I tried about an hour later after I installed some more stuff and it froze again. WTF? Is there something wrong with my motherboard, or is it some program I installed after installing the drivers. I just want to know WTF is going on.

if you're using a 2 connector ata cable make sure you're using the last connector to hook it up. also the cd-rom might be going bad or there's also a possibility of a badly connected molex power plug. just unplug both the interface cable and the power it and re-plug them back in. another thing is that sometimes this stuff happens when you have the drive on cable select. make it either a master or a slave.

There may be a problem with some CDs/DVDs. For best compatibility, use the standard Microsoft drivers. NF drivers tend to be problematic with optical drives. I would also stick with ONE burn application.

What kind of drive is it? I had a NUtech dvd burner that did the same thing, swapped it for a sony and no more problems.

I'd try furballi's advice, I'm going to. I have the same issue, my DVDs work fine, I can burn disks(DVD burner/CD-RW) with no problem, but put in a game disk and my system freezes hard.

I figured it out. Its the drivers I had installed. They're the correct drivers, but they just have issues. I tried Nvidia and MSI drivers and they both did the same thing. I just uninstalled the IDE driver and it works perfectly now. Why it has issues with the driver? I dont know.
