Oviously it will be a bit, but is it really 2 times faster? Will i notice a differance? What about a 52x vs a 8x. The only thing i will be using it for is to read avi movies from one computer to another.

8x will probably not be 2 times faster, But will be a little faster overall in file transfers. With the 52x, you may be bottlenecked by the IDE interface's maximum transfer speed, But at least access time will be lower, So it will "feel" faster.

Ok, so spending more money won't really be worth it if i already have the 8x for a duron 800mhz system?

If you had a PII300 system, I would say no, But your Duron system will like the 52x. That 8x will be holding you back.
