CD ROM Error in Win2k

Ok...this is weird. Just installed an ASUS 50x CD ROM in my system after the old one died. I've never had a problem with a CD ROM and by all accounts this one is great. There is one problem though, on some of my games I get an error when starting them that says the CD ROM is not loaded or I get a message saying to load the correct CD in the drive. If I hit retry I just continue to get the message, and the same thing happens if I hit continue or cancel. If I click the X to close the window the games will load and seem to play just fine. The games I have noticed this on are Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 2, and Red Alert 2. I then took thost games to my parent's house and tried them on my Dad's PC and got the same errors but he has a differnt CD ROM drive which is a Creative 52x. We are both running Win2k and have never had problems like this before. Any help would be great!!

Thanks!

edit: I am running a PIII 866 on an Abit SE6 motherboard. My Dad is running a PII 333 on an Abit LX6 motherboard.
