I am getting this error when I put in a CD into my CD reader. It is a Digital Research 40X drive. It was working without any problems. It is recognized in my device mgr. and say it is working properly. But when I put in a CD, the lights flash but it does not spin. It is only 1 year old. I have tried uninstalling it in my hardware profile and rebooting leting W98 SE detect it. I does find it and add it to my hardware device listing but still it does not spin. Could I have mucked up some setting when installing some games? Any thoughts on this or should I just go buy a new CD or DVD drive?

My Plextor 12/10/32A works flawlessly as drive F:

Sounds like the CD drive is dead... I'm guessing that you've tried multiple CDs, and all that.

If it's not spinning, the bearings in the spindle motor might be shot... If that's the case, bye bye CD-ROM drive. You might also try wiggling the disc tray. If it's not seating itself properly in the drive the motor may not be able to spin up.

KH, nice handle. TBL is one of my favorite movies! :)
