Drive letters are recognized, but Windows XP does not see any disk in the drive. IDE channels work fine with hard drives, only CD-ROM, CDRW, and DVD drives are affected. I tired different drives (that are on the XP hardware compatibility list), different master/slave configurations, uninstalling/reinstalling the drives, installing force ASPI, nothing works...... Thanks for any ideas.

I have a similar problem,

my 2k only recognises one of my drives, the DVD is fine but the CDRW is gone!
I've done similar things aspi layers, various reboots, reinstalled drivers software nothing,

good luck and heres a bump

I've been seeing this posted many times in the past few weeks! seems like XP has a problem with Cd rom drives on my fathers system that is running a K7N420/AMD running XP the cd rom will not read burned material at all! Now I know this CD rom can read these cd's because it did in the beginning just one day decided to stop reading them!

Yes, mine worked fine for a few months, then started working occasionally, now not at all. I can't find a way to fix it!
