cd rom drivers bad or corrupt?

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

This is the error message i get when I look at the device manager.
I have replaced the driver.
I did see the drive on the windows compatible hardware list.

The device is: LG CD-RW CED-8080B it was "designed for windows XP"
I am running windows XP professional and have not updated to service pack 2.
I want to get this issue resolved before I do.

This was an upgrade install from Windows Millenium.

Any thoughts bwside a fresh nonupgrade install?

Thanks,
Steve

make sure the device matches the EXACT name of your device. LG has more than one product ending with 8080. also get the driver from LG directly.

imo, i would not upgrade from ME to XP. I always prefer fresh install to avoid future troubles and waste of time.
