CD rom : Device Not Ready

I just installed a new hard drive. I have the secondary IDE connector connected to the cd rom drive, the jumper is on "master", and it is connected into my #1 connector port on the motherboard. The cd rom shows up as "M" on my drives screen,
yet when I click on it it says "device not ready". If I connect it into the #2 port on the motherboard, the cd rom does
not show up. How can I get it to work??

Try to set the cdrom to "single device"
make sure your cable isn't broken/damaged
