CD Rom Crashes When trying to run anything

Hey guys,

After selling my PC to a friend of mine, he seems to be experiencing an issue installing anything from CD. He goes to run the WoW install and it crashes. He tries to install Nero from the CD that came with the drive. It crashes. I didn't change the jumper on it. It's on the last 2 pins I believe, which I assume to be auto? Could I be wrong? The Hard drive is on the same two pins and it seems to be ok. Should I move it to the first two pins because its on the primary on the secondary IDE channel? Could this be MOBO related? I don't remember having any issues like this a couple weeks ago. Maybe firmware? He just bought a fresh LG one. ANY help with this would be very much appreciated.

<edit>

Right, he just mentionned that we were able to install Windows from the CD without an issue after fixing the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL business.

No new drives to try with atm.

When we have some more time we are going to try this, I was hoping for some responses on here with past experiences or something.

HD pins and cd pins are not the same. If it is the lone drive on a channel, set it to "master". There is no "auto" setting. Looking at the back of the drive, the settings are (left to right): cable select, slave, and master.

Hi, Jack is right, but if your cable is Cable Select (CS) then both devices on the cable must be set to CS. Jim
